Old Colours are parting ways.

We regret to announce that Old Colours will be parting ways. We however would not go without one final kick-ass goodbye tour. It will be kicking off in Bristol on 28th February and concluding on March 16th in Swindon (full dates on promo below). We are all working on new projects – so look out for those popping up too.

We have had an incredible two years, touring the country and meeting all of you awesome people – we’d like to thank EVERYONE for the support you have given us.

Hope to see you all at one of the shows.

Much love, good things,

Colours x

Coming soon…

Happy 9th December.

As Christmas grows closer, we’re getting closer and closer to completing our new EP (Scheduled for release end of Feb).

We are now sitting on 4 tracks – and have one more to write. My iphone memory has been taking a battering as I keep writing songs in my head on the bus and then trying to hum the melodies into it without anyone noticing.

For inspiration I’ve been reading the works of Allen Ginsberg and trying to make sense of it all.

Coming soon (I promise).

Old Colours to be featured on BBC Documentary: Video Made the Radio Star.

Friday, me and Dan joined the awesome crew from BBC Introducing West and recorded an interview which will be featured on a forthcoming documentary; Video made the radio star’. Its shaping up to be a great feature, focused on just how effective the use of video media can drive the  success of artists.

Also featured are; @MatthewKilford, @SuperSquarecloud, @GazBrookfield and @FayeRogers – Really looking forward to seeing the final piece, to be aired across the BBC soon – We will let you know when and where you can catch it asap.

After the interview, we went for lunch in KFC.

How can a Civil War be Civil?

Image
We are Old Colours and we break rules.

Today, I’m thinking about Oxymoron’s. I was sat down with my notebook to work on some lyrics and then found myself on this trail of thought….

I was reading an article on Oscar Wilde and came across this famous quote “I can resist anything, except temptation.” – well this got me thinking ,of how combining contradictory words and phrases is interesting and evidently used more than we think; freedom fighters, business ethics for example. My personal favorite is Civil War – in what sense can a war be civil? Speaking of The Civil Wars – the band are pretty awesome too. I wonder if they thought of Oxymorons when naming themselves?

Oscar Wilde though, what a fascinating guy. Coincidentally his name is remarkably similar to that of another pretty fascinating guy; Oliver Wilde. Oliver is an old friend of mine from when I used to knock around in the grassy hills of Wiltshire with an acoustic guitar and a terrible love (dropped in another oxymoron) for white espadrilles and red socks. I’ve had the pleasure of playing with Oliver a few times and I cannot believe how amazing his music has evolved to become – he kept it locked up for a very long time, humbly helping other musicians with his own label Hilldrop Records. Now its finally about him – and that’s certainly the way it should be! Check him out HERE.

Oxymorons make great lyrics. I am currently writing a poem and trying to incorporate the world record number of oxymoron’s. Who knows, it may even make it onto the new EP.

If I don’t win a world record for that, then I might certainly win the record for the number of times I have mentioned the word Oxymoron in this blog.

I’ll leave you with the sweet agony of my noticeable absence a goodbye reception if you will.

Here is some of my favorite Oxymoronic content before I go:

  • “I can resist anything, except temptation.” – Oscar Wilde
  • “I like a smuggler. He is the only honest thief.” – Charles Lamb
  • “And faith unfaithful kept him falsely true.” – Alfred Tennyson
  • “A business that makes nothing but money is a poor business.” – Henry Ford
  • “A little pain never hurt anyone.” – Word Explorations
  • “I am a deeply superficial person.” – Andy Warhol
  • “A joke is actually an extremely really serious issue.” -Winston Churchill (WTF MATE?)

Rowing, Switzerland and Lanterns on the Lake.

Firstly, our condolences to anyone who applied for a Glasto ticket and were cruelly denied – get back involved again in April though – in the wise words of 1995 Grace, Its not over, not over, not over yet.

Went rowing on the river in Victoria park on Saturday for our buddy Kieran’s birthday. It was a barrel of laughs, but geese are scary.

Also booked flights to Switzerland in December, where we are going to make a short film featuring mountains, lakes, snow, animals, Swiss people and trams – amongst other cliche, beautiful things.

Tonight I’m heading up to Rough Trade to watch a stripped back Lanterns on the Lake and to get my hands on their brand new 5* album of the week (Sunday Times). You can get too your hands on it HERE. The album really can be no less than spectacular – but I will feedback an educated review once I have one.

Have a nice evening.

Happy Birthday Kieran!
